Transit Area

I know you know

But it wouldn’t hurt

To remind you

The airport

Is full beyond capacity

Many people on the floor

Looking downtrodden

And discombobulated

I know you know

But it wouldn’t hurt

To remind you

I the pampered one

Feel the injustice

Of my tiny scissors and work cable

Being confiscated

In a blatant game of power and ignorance

I know you know

But it wouldn’t hurt

To remind you

My friend struggles to find groceries

Wondering if he’ll still have water tomorrow

I stand in the airport and tears finally come at truth’s gentle nod

If my pain stings how great is that of people losing all they’ve ever cared for to the same game

I know you know

But it wouldn’t hurt

To remind you

Like you I honor and cherish the gifts

Of so many blessed souls

Past and present

Who carrying pain exude the love we need

Who say stay child serve life nothing is lost

The paradox isn’t one once you embrace it

I know you know

But it wouldn’t hurt

To steep a stronger brew

As our gratitudes mix

And our tears run freely now
